(November 14, 2019) The amendment to the Constitution of Mongolia adopted by the Mongolian Parliament on November 14, 2019 entered into force nationwide at 12.00 AM on May 25, 2020. The Constitution of Mongolia first entered into force on February 12, 1992 and seven amendments to the Constitution were approved by the Parliament in 2000. Since 2008, the amendment bill was formed seven times until 2019 and submitted to the parliament in 2011, 2012, and 2015. However, those drafts have never been discussed on the legislative level. Mr. Lundeejantsan Danzan, who was a parliament member and led the team to work on the latest version of amendments to the Constitution, presented a draft of the constitutional amendment before the parliament. After 36 series of debates on the parliament, the amendment was approved on November 14, 2019. The reinforcement of parliamentary system and governance, enhancement of the accountability, and independence of the judicial system and local governance system were reflected in the amendment to the Constitution.
